Dr. Sengupta is a board-certified invasive cardiologist with a passion for treating women with cardiovascular disease and performing cardiac catheterizations. She joined Cardiology Associates of Somerset County in Bridgewater, New Jersey in July 2007. She is one of the very few invasive female cardiologists who perform cardiac catheterizations specializing in radial or arm approach vs the traditional groin approach.

Cardiology Associates of Somerset County, also known as CASC, has been providing exemplary cardiac care for patients and the community for over 40 years. Dr. Sengupta, along with  her partners Dr. Alexander Ivanov and Dr. Shivang Trivedi, perform consultations and cardiac testing at their main office in Bridgewater, and provide hospital-based care at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Inspired to go into the field of cardiology due to her desire to fulfill her father’s dream of becoming a doctor, Dr. Sengupta earned her medical degree from the University of Calcutta, India in 1999. She was ranked third in the Medical Board out of 700 students across five medical colleges. Upon relocating to the United States, she completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut in 2004. She was the recipient of the “Outstanding Intern of the Year” in 2002 and “Best Resident of the Year” for 2004. 

She then went on to pursue her fellowship in cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Heart Institute in Houston, which is one of the premier institutions in the United States. She focused a great deal on state-of-the-art technologies, specializing in cardiac imaging with echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac MRI and CT. After completing her fellowship in 2007, Dr. Sengupta was awarded the prestigious “Van Reet Award” for the Best Cardiology Fellow excelling in research, education, clinical knowledge, and leadership.

Among her outstanding accomplishments, she is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography, and a member of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. 

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. An invasive cardiologist is a doctor who specializes in using diagnostic and therapeutic tools that are inserted directly into the patient’s body to treat heart disease. These tools can include balloons, catheters, and stents. Dr. Sengupta is one of the very few cardiologists who performs this procedure via the arm which helps is early discharge and recovery.

A renowned scholar, Dr. Sengupta has been well published in several top journals, including Journal of the American College of Cardiology, The American Journal of Cardiology, Journal of American Society of Echocardiography, The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, European Heart Journal, and CHEST Journal, to name a few. She has also appeared on several radio and television shows regarding cardiac CT and cardiovascular disease in women. Consumers Research Council of America has chosen her as one of “America’s Top Cardiologists” in several consecutive years from 2008 to present. She has been featured on Times Square, NYC billboard as Continental Who’s Who Top Cardiologist of America.

When she is not working, Dr. Sengupta enjoys fitness, dancing, practicing yoga, singing, traveling, gourmet healthy cooking, and above all, spending quality time with her husband, Rick, and son, Ryan.
