Get to know Optometrist Dr. Andrew Roubos, who serves patients in East Lansing, Michigan.

An exceptional optometrist, Dr. Roubos works with patients at Spartan Vision Center, a private, independent optometry practice in East Lansing, Michigan.

Born and raised in Battle Creek, he was the first in his family to earn a degree from a four-year institution, marking a significant milestone. His educational journey began at Michigan State University in 1992, where he experienced a life-changing encounter with a particular MSU football coach who made it possible for him to attend the university.

During his time at Michigan State University, Dr. Roubos recognized the importance of academic support and the impact it had on his own educational success. As a way of giving back, he dedicated approximately one year to tutoring student-athletes, understanding firsthand the significance of mentorship and guidance.

Despite the challenges of being married, raising two young sons, and working part-time at a local doctor’s office, he achieved a remarkable feat by graduating “on the Dean’s List” with a GPA of 3.6. His academic journey was particularly inspiring, considering that he had to take remedial English and Math courses at MSU before progressing to regular coursework.

For the first 18 years of his professional career, Dr. Roubos served as a practicing partner in a multi-location optometric practice in Holland, Michigan. However, his ambition and dedication to his field led him to a new venture. In 2017, he embarked on a new business partnership and practice modality by opening the Spartan Vision Center, located inside the East Lansing Costco Warehouse.

Since its inception on October 27, 2017, Spartan Vision Center has experienced remarkable growth, thanks in no small part to the support of its loyal patients. He deeply appreciates and expresses his gratitude to all those who have contributed to the success of his practice.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Roubos enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends. He is an active participant in the vibrant community around Michigan State University, taking advantage of the rich tapestry of local events and cultural experiences that the university has to offer.

Optometry is a healthcare profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.
