Get to know Periodontist & Dental Implant Expert Dr. Whitney D. Weiner, who serves the population of Michigan. Dr. Weiner completed her undergraduate degree from The Colorado College where she was awarded a full academic scholarship graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Psychology in 2005. Wanting to further her education she then attended the University of Iowa where graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2010, giving her nearly a decade’s worth of experience in her field. While at the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry, Dr. Weiner received several awards, including being the sole recipient of the Dr. R. A. Greenwald Scholarship for outstanding achievement in periodontics. Additionally, she received recognition for her excellence in research, practice management, oral pathology, and leadership. Wanting to further her education Dr. Weiner then received her Specialty Certification in Periodontics and a Master of Science in Oral Science from the University of Illinois in 2013. While there she was also very active in research with a specific interest in genetic susceptibility to periodontal disease. Her research evaluating differential gene expression of inflammatory signalling in localized aggressive periodontitis has been recognized at the national level in the United States. Dr. Weiner currently practices with Whole Dental Wellness, a specialist led, cutting-edge group practice of which she is the Founder and CEO. She is committed to providing every one of her patients excellent comprehensive care with a firm and clear commitment to their health and wellness. Her areas of expertise include (but are not limited to); dental implants and related bone reconstruction surgery, regenerative and aesthetic periodontal surgery (“gum grafts”), management of infection-based oral diseases (“gum disease”) and their influence on systemic health, complex dental extractions, surgical procedures in conjunction with orthodontic therapy, and treatment of ailing and failing implants. To keep up with the latest advances in periodontology and dental implant therapy, Dr. Weiner attends several regional and national professional meetings each year. Dr. Weiner has lectured nationally and internationally on the Oral-Systemic Link (the connection between dental disease and overall health) and several aspects of Periodontology and Implantology. The knowledge gained from attending and lecturing at conferences like these allows Dr. Weiner and her team to be at the forefront of periodontal practice and deliver the most advanced treatments to their patients. In 2016, Dr. Weiner was honored as one of the “Top 25 Women in Dentistry” by Dental Product Report and named the “Most Interesting Person in Dentistry” for February by Curasan.com. In 2017, Incisal Edge named her in their “40 under 40” young rising dental stars in the nation. In recognition of her accomplishments in implant dentistry, in 2016 Dr. Weiner was selected for membership to DENTSPLY Implants’ PEERS North America, an exclusive group of key opinion leaders and experts in the field of implant dentistry – there are less than 100 experts in this elite group throughout North America. Dr. Weiner has been voted a “Top Dentist” by a group of her peers in Hour Magazine every year since moving to the metro Detroit area. Only a handful of periodontists have received this honor. Dr. Weiner is a board-certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She believes in a collaborative, patient-centered approach to periodontal care.
