4 Ways to Look Cool at the Gym
4 Ways to Look Cool at the GymBy Dr. Lonna Denny D.C.I’ll admit it, after 30 years of bodybuilding and martial arts, I have spent a disproportionate amount of my life in gyms. I know what’s cool and what’s not, at least in this one arena. Over the years, I have had many patients that were...
How do you know if your sciatic nerve is pinched?
Easy, the pain runs down your leg into your calf and foot, it hurts if you cough or sneeze, and it hurts to lift your leg unbent. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE
Can a rib pop back into place?
No, it's not going to magically fix itself. Go see a chiropractor to correct the subluxation of your rib, if that's in fact what's causing your pain. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE
How long does a chiropractic adjustment take to work for shoulder pain?
It's not a magic wand and we are not all built the same, so it's impossible to say "it will take X amount of treatments." If you see a chiropractor, the interaction should start with a thorough orthopedic exam so whatever deficits your shoulder has are clearly mapped out. How did you hurt your shoulder, what kind of health do you have, what activities are you using your shoulder for now, the answer to these questions will help your chiro figure out an appropriate treatment plan. If it was a traumatic injury, such as falling on an outstretched arm, an MRI is of most use in determining any torn tissue. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE
Can spinal misalignment cause anxiety?
Can spinal misalignment cause anxiety? I suppose, but what I know for sure is that if you have subluxations (misalignments), it interferes with your nervous system, and that sure isn't going to make it better. Getting adjusted by a chiropractor has this effect on the nervous system: it turns down the synapses in the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and increases the synapses in the parasympathetic nervous system (restorative functions like sleep, digestion, etc.) Best of luck, Dr. Denny D.C. Can a chiropractor help with arm numbness?
An arm can go numb for many reasons such as cervical radiculopathy, thoracic outlet syndrome, or an internal condition. A chiropractor can help, with the caveat that they start with a thorough initial exam to determine the source of the issue. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE

Why does my back always hurt?
Why is your back hurting? It could be anything from a kidney infection to a disc herniation. Spend the money to go see a chiropractor in your area who starts the process with a thorough physical exam. Chiropractors are back specialists, after the exam, they can determine what is the appropriate course of action. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE
Can chiropractic care worsen a herniated disk?
Anything can happen, right? That's why you sign a waiver before surgery that states "You could become a paraplegic from this surgery"... That being said, I have made a career from patients coming in with a disc herniation and leaving pain free or at least at a minimal level. My advice to you is to find a chiropractor in your area with good Yelp reviews that have experience and good results treating that specific condition. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE
How long does it take for a herniated disc to reabsorb?
Good question, unfortunately, in my experience most do not reabsorb. That being said, it doesn't mean you will have pain indefinitely either. With conservative care (chiropractic, acupuncture, core strengthening) and being conscious about what activities cause an exacerbation of pain, most people can live without pain from a disc herniation. My advice to you is to find a chiropractor who has experience and is comfortable treating disc herniations. I have made a career out of treating these, but not all chiros know how to manage the condition and reduce the pain. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE
What exercises improve posture?
One of the very best exercises to have better posture is to roll out your mid-back on a foam roller by laying perpendicular on it, lifting your hips, and taking little steps. After a couple of rolls stop on your mid-back, set your hips down and put your hands over your head. Hold that position for 20 seconds. Dr. Lonna Denny, D.C. READ MORE

Does stretching help back pain?
