The University of Kansas Cancer Center is on an urgent journey to break the devastating grip of cancer. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the region, and 1 of only 53 in the nation, to receive this elite distinction.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Virginia in 1977, Dr. Loew began his journey in the medical field at St. George’s University School of Medicine, receiving his medical degree in 1985. He then went on to complete his residency in pediatrics at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in 1988, before completing his fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at NewYork/Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center in 1991.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

As for his academic appointments, he serves as a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Pediatric oncology is a medical specialty focused on the care of children with cancer. A pediatric hematologist/oncologist is a physician who has special training and experience to diagnose and treat blood disorders and cancers in children, teens, and young adults.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Loew has been the recipient of the Castle Connolly Top Doctor Award (5 years), and was featured among top doctors in Kansas City Magazine (2018-2022).
