After earning his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Shah went on to complete his internship and residency at Yale University, where he served as Chief Resident. His intensive orthopaedic surgical training at Yale was dedicated to the advanced study of neurological functions and spinal disorders. Yale is distinguished for its contributions to the pioneering advancements of spinal and neck surgery.
He then went on to complete his fellowship in complex spine and scoliosis surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. This provided him with advanced training above and beyond what a general residency in either in neurosurgery or orthopaedic surgery would offer.
By studying at some of the finest and most advanced institutions in the world, Dr. Shah trained with the most innovative leaders in spine and neck surgery. A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, he pioneers trends in complex techniques and minimally invasive spinal surgery with orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons across the globe. Moreover, he is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. A significant portion of Dr. Shah’s practice is dedicated to restoring function in those who have either difficulty with their posture or difficulty after a previous surgery. Deformity surgery may be used in the treatment of scoliosis or revision spinal surgery when other surgery may compromise posture and quality of life.
