Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Levi Hinkelman, who serves patients throughout the State of Michigan.

Dr. Hinkelman is an established orthopedic surgeon seeing patients at SHMG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He can also be found on staff at Health Pointe Orthopedics in Grand Haven, Michigan.

The team of physicians and advanced practice providers at SHMG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine offer a complete range of the latest diagnostic procedures and orthopedic treatments with a friendly, patient-centered approach. Their goal is for patients to resume their normal activities as quickly and as pain-free as possible.

The doctor’s clinical interests include treatment of adults and children with hand, wrist, forearm and elbow trauma including tendon and nerve injuries, sports injuries of the hand, wrist and elbow, arthritis of the hand, wrist and elbow, neurologic disorders of the upper extremity and microsurgical reconstruction and soft tissue coverage of the extremities.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Hinkelman earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery through Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners in affiliation with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis.

Dedicated to clinical excellence, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

On a more personal note, Dr. Hinkelman grew up in Southwest Michigan on a family farm. They farm grapes for Welch’s and he still enjoys visiting and working on the farm with his children. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and working on his own small hobby farm.
