Being a board-certified interventional pain management physician, Dr. Kalia specializes in cancer pain rehabilitation, advanced neuromodulation, pain medicine, pain management, occupational medicine, as well as physical medicine and rehabilitation. 

He is affiliated with The Spine Center at Ridgeway in Rochester, New York and Pain Care Center at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, New York. Both centers are a part of Rochester Regional Health, which is an integrated health services organization serving the people of Western New York, the Finger Lakes, and beyond.

On the subject of his academic background, Dr. Kalia earned his Master of Public Health degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and his medical degree from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, India. After his residencies in preventive medicine & public health and physical medicine & rehabilitation, he completed a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Rochester. 

Shortly thereafter, he became board-certified in both physical medicine & rehabilitation and pain medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). The mission of the ABPMR is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning

The doctor belongs to numerous national and international societies, namely: the International Neuromodulation Society, the North American Neuromodulation Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience. He has been published extensively in the areas of interventional spine care, neuromodulation, and cancer pain management.

Interventional pain management or interventional pain medicine is a medical subspecialty which treats pain with invasive interventions such as facet joint injections, nerve blocks (interrupting the flow of pain signals along specific nervous system pathways), neuroaugmentation (including spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation), vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, nucleoplasty, endoscopic discectomy and implantable drug delivery system. As an interventional pain management physician, Dr. Kalia focuses on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.
