Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Elizabeth Fagan, who serves patients throughout the State of Texas.
A distinguished professional in emergency medicine, Dr. Fagan holds the position of Director of Education and EMS at Integrative Emergency Services (IES) in Dallas, Texas, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center McKinney, and EMS Medical Director for Baylor Scott & White Health East Region. She is also the Director of Beacon Emergency Services Team (BEST) EMS, which provides Medical Direction and Continuing Education. Her passions are compassionate patient care, education, and EMS.
Among her notable accomplishments is the creation and instruction of the High Risk/ Low-Frequency Critical Procedures Course, ensuring that IES physicians and advanced practice providers maintain confidence and competence in lifesaving procedures.
She and her partners in BEST EMS are passionate about the care of Cardiac Arrest patients. They are the only medical direction organization in the country designated as a Lighthouse Community by the Resuscitation Academy. In 2023, Dr. Fagan and her partner Dr. Northeim were awarded the 2023 Dr. Leonard Cobb Distinguished Alumni Award for dedication and support in saving lives from cardiac arrest. In the last 2 years, they have hosted 4 Resuscitation Academies and educated more than 500 EMS personnel in cardiac arrest care.
In collaboration with the McKinney Fire Department, she helped create a fire-based community health paramedicine program that influenced fire department paramedicine programs across the country. In 2014, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) invited Dr. Fagan and the McKinney Fire Community Health Paramedics to present a leadership lab on establishing community health paramedicine programs. Furthermore, in 2018, they achieved a Guinness World Record by rallying over 11,000 individuals to pledge to learn CPR.
A 1992 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Dr. Fagan went on to perform her residency in emergency medicine at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She then furthered her training with a fellowship in administrative emergency medicine at the same institution. Board-certified in emergency medicine and emergency medical services, Dr. Fagan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Fagan is an active member of the National and Texas Chapters of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the National and Texas Chapters of the National Association of EMS Physicians. She sits on the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council EMS Medical Director’s Committee.
