Dr Hannum is also the president and medical director of the surgery center as was intergral in starting the facility that now performs over 4000 outpatient surgeries a year. He performs complex inpatient surgery at the Cape Fear Orthopedic specialty hospital part of Novant Regional Medical Center in Wilmington NC. As an orthopedic surgeon, he specializes in general orthopedic surgery as well as knee and hip replacements and revisions, including minimally invasive hip and knee procedures. With a professional journey that spans across more than 25 years, Dr. Hannum is board certified by the ABOS and is a fellow of AAHKS (American Association of Hip and Knee surgeons) and is licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina. An international-level presenter, the doctor has worked extensively as a consultant with many different orthopedic companies and has helped design instruments and implants for surgery as well as teaching surgical techniques to other physicians. A proud father of four, happily married to his wife Laurie for 32 years.

A 1993 graduate of The University of Toledo College of Medicine, Dr. Hannum went on to perform his residency in orthopedic surgery with Summa Health in 1998. This was followed by a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction at UF Health Shands Hospital in 1999.
Specializing in adult joint replacement and reconstruction, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Before moving to Wilmington, Dr. Hannum spent seven years in Washington, North Carolina, in private practice. He has worked extensively as a consultant with many different orthopedic companies, presents internationally, and has helped design instruments and implants for surgery.
