A seasoned pediatric anesthesiologist, Dr. Ashley is affiliated with UC Davis Children’s Hospital in Sacramento, California. Her philosophy of care is that all patients should be provided with expert clinical care, compassion, and respect. Her key clinical activities include resident and medical student education. She is interested in critical care, simulation, regional/pain anesthesia, mentorship/coaching, diversity and inclusion, and community service.
UC Davis Children’s Hospital is the Sacramento region’s only nationally ranked, comprehensive hospital for children, offering children and their families the highest level of care for virtually every pediatric health condition. It has the Central Valley's only level I pediatric trauma center and emergency department, and the 129-bed hospital includes state-of-the-art neonatal, pediatric and pediatric cardiac intensive care units.
In 1979, Dr. Ashley received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lincoln University, and earned her medical degree from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in anesthesiology at the King-Drew Medical Center, and her fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.
Subsequently, she completed her Master of Public Health degree from the UCLA School of Public Health in 2000, and her Master of Business Administration degree from the Claremont University, Peter F. Drucker School of Management in 2003. She also completed a fellowship in educational leadership from the University of South California Keck School of Medicine in 2005.
As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.
Continuously advancing her efforts, Dr. Ashley is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, the National Medical Association, the Society for Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesiologists.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.
Among her most notable achievements, Dr. Ashley has been the recipient of the Achievement of Excellence in Educational Improvement (2004), Education Award (2004), Outstanding Faculty Award for Didactic Teaching (2001), Outstanding Scholarship, Leadership and Service Award (1999), Ann G. Quealey Memorial Award (2000), Outstanding Teacher of the Year (1999), and Certificate of Appreciation (1992). She has an identical twin sister, Dr. Ann Ava Ashley-Gilbert-Biry who is also a Top Doctor in Florida.
