Can running hurt a bulging disc?
Yes, running could aggravate a bulging disc. Running causes 2-4 x your body weight to go through your legs and back. Low impact exercises such as walking, biking, elliptical, swimming are less likely to aggravate the disc. READ MORE
What exercises fix bunions?
There are no exercises or braces/splints that will correct/fix a Bunion. It is a progressive problem that will gradually worsen over time and ultimately need surgical correction. Using pads over the Bunion and wider toe box shoes can decrease irritation/pain. READ MORE
What causes bone pain in the foot?
Pain in the Foot can be related to a bone issue or soft tissues. X-rays and a physical exam by an Orthopedic Foot/Ankle specialist can diagnose what is causing the problem and the treatment options to resolve the pain. READ MORE
How long does it take for a knee replacement to heal?
The first 6 weeks are the toughest. Usually patients are doing very well by 3-4 months, but maximum recovery can take 6-9 months. READ MORE
Is there surgery for shoulder bursitis?
Typically Shoulder Bursitis can be treated without surgery. Treatment will include icing, a prescription strength anti-inflammatory or steroid injection, and physical therapy. Surgery would only be considered if the above didn't resolve your symptoms. A MRI will usually be ordered before any surgery. READ MORE
When should I see a doctor for leg pain?
You should see an Orthopedic Surgeon if you have had an injury that persists after a few days, are unable to bear weight/limping significantly, or if the pain is still present after 2-3 weeks when there has been no specific injury. READ MORE
What is the best pain reliever for bursitis?
Typically anti-inflammatories (Advil/Ibuprophen/Aleve) are going to work better than Tylenol. You should not take anti-inflammatories if you have a history of Stomach ulcers, are on blood thinning medications, or have high blood pressure/Heart issues. READ MORE
Shin splints?
X-rays can be normal for up to 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture. Using ice, stretching, and the Ibuprophen can be helpful. Using crutches should be based on pain. If the pain is so severe that you can't put weight on the Leg at all, I would recommend a MRI to ensure that you do not have a stress fracture. READ MORE
How do you stop a bunion from progressing?
Unfortunately there is nothing that will stop a Bunion from progressing. Exercises/stretches and splints/braces do NOT work. Using padding or wider toe box shoes can decrease symptoms. Ultimately you will need surgical correction if you having pain with most activities and in most of your shoes. READ MORE
What happens if you leave a sprained ankle untreated?
This depends on the severity of the sprain. A mild sprain will likely fully resolve in 2-4 weeks and cause no long term issues with treating the symptoms(icing, Tylenol/Advil/Aleve). A moderate to severe sprain means more significant injury to the Ankle Ligaments and require some temporary bracing and physical therapy to re-strengthen the Ankle, relieve all of the symptoms, and minimize risk of future injury. Time does not re-tighten the ligaments. READ MORE
