Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Dominic John Dessables, who serves patients in Mesa, Arizona.

Dr. Dessables is a board-certified anesthesiologist who delivers comprehensive, expert care in collaboration with each of his patients. In association with Banner Health, he is affiliated with Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.

As one of the largest and most comprehensive facilities in Arizona, Banner Desert serves as a tertiary referral center for the East Valley of metropolitan Phoenix and treats the highest levels of acuity in the East Valley. It is committed to providing the community with excellent patient care and is ranked as one of the top five hospitals in Phoenix, being recognized for eight high-performing specialties, according to the U.S. News Best Regional Hospitals report.

A 1997 graduate of New York Medical College, Dr. Dessables went on to perform his internship in internal medicine at NYU Langone Hospital — Long Island in 1998. This was followed by a residency in anesthesiology at the Emory University Hospital in 2000.

Two years later, in 2002, the doctor attained board certification in anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.
