Dr. Amie Sun-Wright, MD. Ph.D. --Dr. Sun-Wright is an internist in Houston, Texas.  She received her Ph.D. of Biochemistry from University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio, and medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School Of Medicine.  She has been practicing in North Houston area for over 15 years, .  

As the founder of New Wave Physicians Group, she leads a group of medical providers to make sure our patients needs are met.  Besides taking care of acute care patients, we also manage different chronic diseases for patients one year old and up.  Our focus is prevention, wellness and longevity.  

At New Wave Physicians Group, we accepts all major types of Health Insurances.   During the pandemic period, we also started the direct patient care program to help patients who are temporarily without health insurance.

About her educational pursuits, she earned her Master of Science and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Texas in San Antonio, where she also served as an Assistant Professor. Her innovative research on bacteriophage therapy has equipped her with a unique perspective on patient care, emphasizing systematic assessment and critical thinking. This solid foundation in science fuels her commitment to delivering the best health outcomes and patient experiences.

Transitioning from research to medicine, Dr. Sun-Wright obtained her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Dallas before relocating to the Houston area to be closer to her family. Her dedication to her patients and community has earned her accolades, including recognition as one of Houston’s “Top Doctors” for multiple years and a spot in the Who’s Who in Primary Care in the U.S. in 2018.

In 2021, Dr. Sun-Wright founded New Wave Physicians Group after serving in high-level management roles within two large multi-specialty healthcare organizations. Her vision is to create a patient-centered, primary care-focused practice that consistently places the interests of patients first. “I am grateful to work alongside a remarkable team of providers and staff at NWPG,” said Dr. Sun-Wright. “Together, we strive to enhance the healthcare experience for our community.”

Outside of her practice, she is a triathlon enthusiast and enjoys spending quality time with her family. She is fluent in English, and Chinese, and medically conversant in Spanish, allowing her to connect with a diverse patient population.
