Get to know Pathologist Dr. Anil R. Prasad, who serves patients in Tucson, Arizona.

With a career spanning over three decades, Dr. Prasad has dedicated his life to the advancement of medical knowledge and the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. His impressive academic journey, combined with his extensive expertise in pathology, has made him a renowned figure in the field of medicine and research. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at The University of Arizona College of Medicine at Tucson.

His expertise extends to several critical areas of pathology, making him a sought-after figure in both academia and clinical practice. His specialization includes head & neck pathology, gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) pathology, immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technology.

Back in 1985, Dr. Prasad earned his Bachelor of Medicine degree (MBBS) from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India. Continuing his educational journey, he achieved his MD in Pathology from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in 1992, solidifying his expertise in the field.

Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the esteemed Henry Ford Hospital in 1999, before pursuing fellowships in cytopathology at Henry Ford Hospital in 2000 and surgical pathology at the renowned Mayo Clinic in 2001.

Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. Prasad is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (FCAP), and Fellow of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (FASCP).

An avid researcher, his work primarily focuses on the Molecular Pathology of GI Cancers, the Pathogenesis of Skin Cancer, Barrett’s Esophagus, and Biobanking. His contributions in these areas have not only improved our knowledge of disease mechanisms but have also paved the way for innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

In addition to his academic and clinical pursuits, Dr. Prasad has played a pivotal role in advancing Human Tissue Biorepository Science. His commitment to preserving and cataloging human tissues for research purposes underscores his dedication to advancing the frontiers of medicine. Through his work in biobanking, he has contributed significantly to the development of cutting-edge therapies and diagnostic tools.

Pathology is a branch of medicine that involves the study and diagnosis of diseases through direct gross and microscopic tissue analyses (e.g. of biopsies). Pathologists also analyze various body fluids (e.g. blood) and whole bodies (autopsies). Pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis of diseases using laboratory methods.
