A native New Yorker, she left the city after high school to pursue undergraduate, medicine (MD), and health policy studies (MPH) at Yale University and Yale School of Medicine/Epidemiology and Public Health. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai and a residency in ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute. Finally, she completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Duke University.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in ophthalmology through the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Interested in international health and health policy, Dr. Frempong has travelled to and worked in numerous countries around the world, receiving the Mount Sinai Travel/Research Fellowship. She is also the recipient of the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement for Outstanding Women by Yale University.
