A caring and diligent podiatrist, Dr. Vess has been in private practice since 2015 and has been serving the Pittsburgh region since 2017.
He founded Fourth River Foot and Ankle, P.C. in 2020, providing personalized treatment of foot and ankle disorders in Pittsburgh’s East End. He also sees patients in his White Oak Office serving Pittsburgh’s southeast suburban area as well as the Mon Valley.
Located in Pittsburgh’s historic Highland Park neighborhood in the Bryant Street Business District, Fourth River Foot and Ankle, P.C. is convenient to the East End neighborhoods of Lawrenceville, Stanton Heights, Morningside, East Liberty, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Regent Square and Point Breeze, to name a few. A native of Rochester, New York, Dr. Vess studied Anthropology as an undergraduate at The State University of New York-College at Geneseo, receiving his degree in 2008. He then went on to achieve his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in 2012, serving as class president.
Following graduation, he completed a 3-year residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.
Specifically when it comes to runners and athletes, Dr. Vess has a keen interest in biomechanics of the lower extremity, where he often prescribes custom fabricated orthotic devices. He also has a passion for foot surgery such as bunion/hammertoe correction, nerve and joint surgery and surgery for heel pain and tendon issues.
Both at his private office and through the UPMC McKeesport Wound Care Center, Dr. Vess specializes in complex wound care and reconstruction of the foot and ankle. He is an active staff member of the podiatry service at the following hospitals: UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside, UPMC St. Margaret, and UPMC McKeesport.
