Get to know Reproductive Endocrinologist Dr. Marilyn Richardson, who serves patients in Kansas.
Dr. Richardson is a nationally recognized leader in specialized women’s healthcare. As a researcher, educator, and clinician, she has the credentials and experience that inspire confidence.
Providing a spectrum of advanced health solutions with an integrative, holistic focus, she is the owner of KC Wellness Center in Kansas City, Missouri and Hormone Hair & Vein Center in Shawnee, Kansas. The goal of the centers is to provide the body with everything that it needs to heal itself. By practicing safe, effective medicine, the staff is able to provide men and women with the right “tools” that will help the body heal and regain vitality, thereby improving their overall health and wellness.
As a gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Richardson brings an immense medical background to her patients. A graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine for the degree of medical doctor, she received certification after post-doctoral training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. She is viewed as a national leader in hormonal therapy.
“My experience and expertise allow me to have in-depth discussions about the issues a patient is experiencing, such as weight gain, fatigue, irritability, headaches, fogginess, hot flashes, and more. A major area of concern for many is a lack of sexual functioning. My original focus in medicine was fertility and helping couples conceive. Now, this enables me to understand the patient’s sexual functioning as well” as stated by the doctor.
In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), Dr. Richardson is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada. She also holds certifications in advanced operative endoscopy and advanced operative hysteroscopy. She also holds certification as a Menopause Practitioner from the North American Menopause Society.
Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health.
Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to reproduction, as well as the issue of infertility. While most REI specialists primarily focus on the treatment of infertility, reproductive endocrinologists are trained to also evaluate and treat hormonal dysfunctions in females and males outside after the reproductive years.
With a primary focus on health and vitality, Dr. Richardson believes the need for hormone replacement will continue to grow as baby boomers become discontented with the symptoms of low hormone levels. She contends that this group wants to be fun, be vibrant, and enjoy high levels of energy. For her, bioidentical hormone replacement can help. “We’re replacing hormones you made naturally when you were younger and then you stopped making them as you age. We supplant what you made in huge quantities years before, just putting them back and giving you renewed vigor and vitality to address many of the issues that are troubling you” she shared.
