Dr. Miller, a thriving neurologist, serves as the Medical Director of the Brain Treatment Center Dallas in Texas. He specializes in the treatment of traumatic brain injury, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, dementia, autism, and multiple other brain disorders.
“We explore the concept that the brain can be treated by physical means that are not chemical. We believe that with the exploration of the relationship between cognition and neural activity, an innovative and informed approach to non-invasive neuromodulation is possible. Our dedicated team of neuroscientists and physicians believe in delivering individualized treatment in order to achieve a healthier life for people with various neurological issues,” according to the practice’s philosophy.
Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Miller served as:
- Chief Neurohospitalist within the Neurohospitalist Subdivision of the Hospitalist Department at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo from July 2014 – August 2015.
- Chief Neurologist/Director of Sleep Clinic within the Neurology Department at Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center in Nevada from August 2009 – June 2014.
- Teaching Fellow within the Neurology Department at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland from September 2013 – June 2014.
- Staff Neurohospitalist within the Department of Neurology at Nevada Neurosciences Institute in Las Vegas from October 2009 – March 2015.
Back in the early days of his academic career, he received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in Neurology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Following his training, Dr. Miller became Board-certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, which is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
Dr. Miller’s Personal Experience with Traumatic Brain Injury.
An interesting experience with his own traumatic brain injury is what led Dr. Miller to change the course of his career and open the Brain Treatment Center Dallas. He was first approached by another physician who introduced him to the MeRT neuromodulation protocol. He was a bit skeptical but agreed to go to the training center in July of 2018 to California to learn more about the treatment.
As part of his training, he was required to go through MeRT himself. After an unexpected EEG result showing signs of a traumatic brain injury, he was asked to call his mother to see if she remembered his having any type of head injury. As soon as he posed the question to her, she answered YES, and told him that he had a skateboarding injury at the age of 9 when he fell and hit the right side of his head.
Dr. Miller had no memory of this occurring. When he looked at the EEG, he noted that the right frontal lobe of his brain was operating in the delta frequency, which is the frequency that normally occurs during deep sleep. The rest of his brain waves were normal, in the Alpha frequency, which occurs when the patient is awake but has his eyes closed (like he was when the EEG was completed). He was shocked to find out that this part of his brain had been turned “off” for all of those years.
After undergoing the MeRT himself, the EEG showed that the right frontal lobe, which was previously turned off, began to function and awaken again. He noticed that he was able to think more clearly, was no longer depressed, was less anxious, and his sleep drastically improved. Even his family and students began to comment on how much his demeanor and mood had changed.
While in California, Dr. Miller was also able to interact with another patient who had severe autism and saw first-hand what the treatment was able to do for this child. It was these two experiences that led him down a different career path, one towards treatment for different brain disorders that could positively impact other people’s lives, just as it did his. Hence, he opened the Brain Treatment Center Dallas in 2018 so that he can help others heal.
To date, he remains affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers in his local area, including North Mississippi Medical Center, Christus Mother Frances Hospital, and Baylor University Medical Center. He also remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology and the Texas Medical Association.
Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.
Happily married, Dr. Miller and his wife, Andrea, have four beautiful boys ranging in age from 7-17 years of age. The family enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and participating in numerous sports together. They also love traveling and do so every opportunity that they can.
