Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Myrna Chavarria, who serves patients in Corpus Christi, Texas.

An excellent neonatologist, Dr. Chavarria is affiliated with Children’s Physician Services of South Texas. Her areas of interest are breastfeeding, nutrition, family-centered care, therapeutic hypothermia, high-risk infant outpatient follow up, and palliative care.

Specializing in pediatric & adolescent medicine, she performs procedures such as infusion device insertion and endotracheal intubation. She also treats labor & delivery complications and respiratory distress syndrome.

The most advanced health care provider of children in South Texas, Children’s Physician Services of South Texas (CPSST) is located in Corpus Christi and is affiliated with Driscoll Children’s Hospital. With cutting-edge technology and innovative treatment plans, the medical team works diligently to provide exceptional care. Academically, Dr. Chavarria graduated with her medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila in Mexico. Wanting to continue her education, she relocated to the United States where she completed her residency at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and her fellowship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and a Board member of the Texas Perinatal Association, the doctor is board-certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr. Chavarria is affiliated with Valley Baptist – Harlingen Hospital, Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Las Palmas Medical Center, Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus, and Memorial Medical Center.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.

During her spare time, Dr. Chavarria enjoys spending time with her husband, two step-sons, and dog, Lola. She also enjoys traveling, going on long-distance walks, and snorkeling.
