Heywood Hospital is a non-profit community-owned hospital that offers medical-surgical, telemetry and intensive care, emergency care, maternity and pediatrics, geriatric and adult inpatient care, inpatient adult mental health, outpatient oncology and hematology, advanced imaging, special procedures, a skilled nursing sub-acute care unit, rehabilitation services and many other services on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Dr. Farooqui graduated with her medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in India in 1980, giving her nearly four decades of experience in her field. After obtaining her medical degree she relocated to the United States and completed her internship with Waltham-Weston Hospital Medical Center. She then completed her general surgery residency with the Waltham Weston Hospital Medical Center followed by a Psychiatry residency from the West Roxbury Park Mental Health Center. Furthering her training she completed her fellowship with the Harvard School of Public Health.
Geriatric psychiatry emphasizes the biological and psychological aspects of normal aging, the psychiatric effect of acute and chronic physical illness, and the biological and psychosocial aspects of the pathology of primary psychiatric disturbances of older age. Geriatric psychiatrists focus on prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders in the elderly and improvement of psychiatric care for healthy and ill elderly patients.
