A 2011 graduate of Saint James School of Medicine, Dr. Leal performed a combined internal medicine and psychiatry residency program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where she served as chief resident. She then went on to specialize in geriatric psychiatry at Mayo Clinic. There, she worked in inpatient and outpatient psychiatry with a variety of diagnoses and cared for severely ill patients.
Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in general psychiatry & geriatric psychiatry by the the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
In order to stay up to date in her field, Dr. Leal remains an active member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists, the American College of Physicians.
