Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Michael J. Leahy, who serves patients in Tomball and The Woodlands, Texas.

In practice since 2005, Dr. Leahy is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon who sees patients at Texas Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine with offices in Tomball and The Woodlands. He believes in taking a conservative approach to treating the spine. “In my practice, surgical treatment of spinal disorders is always a last resort. It is only after exhaustive conservative efforts have been made that surgery is appropriate. I feel that this is the safest approach to treating the spine and allows for the best surgical outcomes.”

Texas Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine consists of a group of highly trained orthopaedic specialists proudly serving the north Houston area community since 1975. The physicians, mid-level providers, and physical therapists provide specialized expertise in several areas of orthopaedics. They are dedicated to patients’ care, providing sports injury prevention services and treatments such as physical therapy, joint replacement, spine treatment, and pain management services.

A strong proponent of minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr. Leahy specializes in nonfusion procedures such as artificial disc replacement and adult stem cell therapy. He is proficient in all of the most current surgical techniques in the treatment of spinal disorders, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He incorporates these treatment alternatives into his practice whenever possible. “Every patient is different and will require an individualized treatment plan. I want my patients to know that I will take a very thorough approach to treat their spinal issues.”

Following the completion of his undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University in 1995, Dr. Leahy attended The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He graduated with his medical degree in 1999, after which he completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Scott & White Hospital, Texas A&M Health Sciences Center. This was followed by a fellowship at Texas Back Institute in 2005.

Dedicated to excellence, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
