She went on to complete an ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, where she served as chief resident and presented on cancer-associated retinopathy, lupus retinopathy, and retinal phlebitis at the university’s grand rounds forum.

An authority in her field, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Khaja is an active member of the Cincinnati Society of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Dallas Muslim Medical Alliance.

An avid researcher, she has conducted groundbreaking research on acute maculopathy and dangling lens phacoemulsification, a new technique for phacoemulsification and lens implantation. She has also performed extensive performance analyses of various vitreoretinal instruments.

Well respected by colleagues and patients for her skill and dedication, Dr. Khaja attributes her success to passion, hard work, and commitment to quality patient care. She also attributes much of her success to her mentor, Dr. Wesley Herman, a renowned innovator in the field of ophthalmic microsurgery.
