“As an optometrist, you assist patients with one of their most crucial aspects of their lives: their vision. Understanding how much of a responsibility it is can be stressful at times. Similarly, there were obstacles and anxieties associated with my employment in the Air Force. I deal with difficulties by maintaining a sense of equilibrium in all aspects of my life. I strive diligently, but not to the exclusion of other vital elements of my life, such as family and society. I also make it a point to eat well, get enough sleep, and maintain as much wellness as possible. You will be able to have a clearer mind if your health practices are well-balanced” expressed Dr. Hilowitz.
Having maintained excellent patient satisfaction percentages over his decades as a skilled optometrist, his incomparable competence and friendly demeanor are praised by patients. Dr. Hilowitz proactively engages in keeping himself up-to-date with current advances in medicine to treat his patients better.
Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.
Having received various awards throughout his time in the service, Dr. Hilowitz also maintains the record for the longest time without making a single mistake on a patient’s eyeglass prescription. He went 3 years and 3 months throughout his time while serving in Winn Army Community Hospital in Fort Stewart with the Army from 2008-2012 without making a single mistake.
A conscientious individual with a charitable heart throughout his private life, Dr. Hilowitz is committed to providing everything he has to everything he does, and he is continuously looking for ways to improve the community in which he lives and works.
