About

John W. Watford, MD practices as an Internist at John W. Watford MD LLC located in Florida. His passion for medicine was sparked by his inquisitive nature and interest in understanding the intricacies of how things work. Initially, his curiosity was focused on engineering, but later, he developed a keen interest in biology, inspired by his parents and some exceptional teachers in high school. Dr. Watford spent his formative years in Alabama and Florida and completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences with Honors at Auburn University. While there, he established the first inpatient shadowing program for health sciences students and was also a founding member of the Auburn University Honors College. He obtained his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in 2003 and completed his internships in General Surgery at Carraway Methodist Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama, and Internal Medicine at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland, Oregon. Dr. Watford believes that curiosity is essential to fostering connections with others. It encourages lifelong learning, enhances problem-solving skills, and nurtures our desire to take on new challenges. It also helps us to listen actively, inspires us to collaborate generously, and expands our empathy. He became Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 2007 and recertified in 2017. He joined the staff of Naples Community Hospital in 2020 to provide inpatient services and opened his independent practice in February 2022. Dr. Watford relies on national and international societal guidelines, peer-reviewed literature, local and state medical societies, and other online collaborations to provide the best possible care to his patients.

Articles and Publications

  • Dr. John W. Watford is a primary care internal medicine doctor in Naples, Florida. He opened his concierge primary care clinic in February 2022 but has been practicing medicine since 2003. Having a concierge practice enables Dr. Watford to do what is really important to him and that is getting to know his patients in a patient driven experience. The first visit is typically around an hour where he and his potential patient get to know each other--he encourages them to interview him so they will feel comfortable as they choose their primary care physician. The next appointment is around 2 hours where Dr. Watford will do a comprehensive exam and ask questions, taking up to 2 hours so he can be completely thorough. He does follow ups every 3 months, even if it\'s just touching base with them on the phone. He considers himself a partner in his patient\'s healthcare, coming alongside them with education, advice, referrals, and accountability.

What do you attribute your success to?

  • \"I focus on listening to my patients and allow them to drive the appointment with their concerns. I have always been naturally curious about why things are the way they are the way they are. I want to be able to really make a difference in people\'s lives, so I take my education as an ability to help them live their best life with the time they have left and that is so important to me.\"
