Dr. Deryk Jones, the Section Head of Sports Medicine and Cartilage Restoration at the Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute, continues to make significant contributions to the field of sports medicine while caring for numerous college and high school teams throughout New Orleans and surrounding parishes. With an impressive academic and professional background, Dr. Jones is committed to advancing athlete care and improving clinical outcomes.

Dr. Jones earned his undergraduate degrees in Science and Philosophy from Emory University, where he also played collegiate soccer. He then obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from Stanford University School of Medicine. After completing a general surgery internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and residency training in orthopedic surgery at the prestigious Harvard Combined Orthopaedics Residency Program, Dr. Jones was honored to serve as chief resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. Furthering his expertise, he completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

As a board-certified physician with subspecialty certification in sports medicine, Dr. Jones's academic role includes serving as a full professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Ochsner Clinical School and the University of Queensland, Australia. His significant research contributions include groundbreaking studies on cartilage metabolism and regeneration, as well as the clinical outcomes of various sports-related injuries.

Dr. Jones is also a founding member of the Cartilage Repair Centers of America, where he focuses on innovative biological reconstructive techniques for treating articular cartilage injuries. His landmark 2006 article in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery introduced a novel technique using xenographic tissue for knee defect treatment, showcasing his commitment to advancing surgical methodologies.

Dr. Jones specializes in treating a wide range of conditions, including shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle pathologies through advanced techniques such as meniscal transplantation and autologous chondrocyte implantation. He is particularly adept at performing minimally invasive joint replacements and arthroscopic-assisted surgeries for traumatic fractures and ligament injuries.
