What will help depends upon what we are trying to achieve. This is very limited information to understand complete medical condition. Assuming your grandfather has terminal condition. Are infections treated in hospice?
Yes, infections can be treated with antibiotics in hospice. Like any treatments, the goal needs to be to achieve comfort or reduce the suffering. There can be timed trial of antibiotics for reasonable improvement in the symptoms. If we see the improvement in the symptoms, then the goal is achieved. If not, then would have to use additional measures to achieve comfort and may have to forego antibiotic treatment as proven ineffective. READ MORE

Hospice is very extensive and comprehensive service. it has 4 levels of care provided with an interdisciplinary team. these services can be provided at home or nursing home for most part. if needed and available hospice in patient unit can be utilized to achieve comfort for the patient/caregivers. i would reach out to your grandfather's primary physician to obtain referral to hospice provider for information session. What qualifies someone to be put in hospice?

How can I prevent my mom from getting bed sores?
There are many measures that could be simple and able to prevent the pressure ulcers (bed sores) for significant amount of time. Most simple thing that you could do is to change her sides every 1.5 to 2 hours. There are barrier creams available over the counter that could be applied to high pressure areas. You may also want to talk to her provider and she may be able to qualify for home health or hospice. This way you may be able to get specialist guidance at home on how to care for your mother.
