About
Peter Wohl is an acupuncturist practicing in Closter, NJ. Dr. Wohl evaluates and treats patients based on the concepts of oriental medicine. Acupuncturists complete their evaluations by getting a patient history and looking at and touching the body. Then, they place very fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Stimulating these points and nerves is how Dr. Wohl treats the patients condition. Many of the bodys systems respond to acupuncture, and it can treat physical pain as well as emotional stress.

What are the the best ways to relieve neck pain?
A lot of times a few simple things can help with this. You can start by applying ice to the area for 15 minutes to try to improve inflammation. It is important to know that when sleeping your neck needs to be in a neutral position. If you lay on your side while sleeping you will want to keep your neck straight in line with the rest of your spine. It is important to not have too little pillow support and equally as important to not have too many pillows under your head. In either case you can cause unnecessary strain on your neck when sleeping. Try these tricks out. If that does not help, consult with a chiropractor that can help correct any damage that may have occurred to the neck. READ MORE
What can I expect with a herniated disk?
In order to "officially" diagnose a herniated disc, you would need to have advanced imaging. The most common imaging for this is MRI, however, not everyone is a candidate for an MRI and a CT Scan is an alternative as well. An MRI is a very strong magnet, so if there is any metal in someone's body this can't be performed. On the contrary, the CT Scan has radiation associated with it so if at all possible the MRI is probably considered the gold standard. As far as treatment for a herniated disc, my recommendation would always be to start conservatively and only work to more aggressive or more invasive options after conservative therapies fail to work. For example, Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture and Massage are great conservative options to help with muscle spasm, inflammation and mobility issues that are often common issues with herniated discs. I personally perform traction and/or decompression therapy to the right candidates in order to relieve pressure on the spine. If conservative therapies fail, there are still options in order to prevent invasive spine surgery. You can consult with an MD to determine if drugs are an option or even a Pain Management Physician that can perform epidural injections. These are just a few options, please consult with your chiropractor to find out more. READ MORE

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain and back pain. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself without the use of medication or surgery.
