Throughout her academic career, Dr. Asihene graduated with her medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine in 1992. She then went on to perform her internship and residency in internal medicine at CHA Cambridge Hospital in 1995, after which she served as the Medical Director of Mystic Health Center, Cambridge Health Alliance from 1995 until 1998.
Attributing her success to having faith and excellent mentors, she is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
Among her philanthropic endeavors, Dr. Asihene works with not-for-profit organizations like African Transformation Embassy, Dayspring Missions Haiti, and Calvary Christian Center in Ormond Beach. Every two years, she returns to her African roots, providing free health care and medications to hundreds of the poorest people in the world. Her first mission trip was to her native Ghana in 2000.
Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys cooking and children’s literature. Her favorite places to vacation are Hawaii, Costa Rica, and Africa. Her favorite professional publications include Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, and The Lancet.
