Get to know Radiologist Dr. Hiren R. Patel, who serves patients in Toms River Township, New Jersey.

Dr. Patel, a board-certified musculoskeletal radiologist, serves as the Medical Director & Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging at Atlantic Medical Imaging in Toms River Township, New Jersey. His special interests include musculoskeletal imaging (bones, joints, and spine); ultrasound-guided minimally invasive procedures; MRI, CT and ultrasound; coronary CT angiography; and general diagnostic imaging.

Atlantic Medical Imaging started in 1964 as a one-man radiology practice at Atlantic City Medical Center’s City Division. The goal was to serve the community by combining sensitive patient care with delivery of the most rapid, accurate diagnostic imaging services possible.

After earning his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1997, Dr. Patel went on to serve his internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1998. He then completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2002, followed by his fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at the Hospital for Special Surgery in 2003. 

With a focus on all facets of musculoskeletal imaging, he is board-certified in diagnostic radiology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

A leader in his field, Dr. Patel specializes in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases using medical imaging techniques such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography exams. He is an attending radiologist at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Patel, MD, is a 1997-graduate of The Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California. His postgraduate training includes his internal medicine internship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School (1997-1998), his radiology residency served at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School (1998-2002), as well as his musculoskeletal imaging fellowship performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery/Weill Cornell Medical College (2002-2003). Musculoskeletal radiologists are specially trained radiologists who diagnose conditions that affect the bones, joints and soft issues in the extremities.
