About

Dr. Jeff Kobernik is a dual board certified Dentist Anesthesiologist who completed his residency through NYU Langone Hospitals – Brooklyn. He received his Doctorate in Medical Dentistry from Oregon Health Science University in 2006.

Upon graduation from dental school, he accepted a position as an associate dentist in Pendleton, OR.  While there, he gained experience as a dentist in private practice and was a staffed dental provider at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Through this appointment, Dr. Kobernik provided dentistry to both children and patients with disabilities under general anesthesia.

In January 2009, he and his family moved to Southern Oregon where he bought his first private dental practice. His experience and ongoing education provided the opportunity to mentor and teach other dentists in the fields of implant dentistry and sedation/anesthesia. In the fall of 2014, Dr. Kobernik was honored with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry’s Associate Fellow designation after passing both rigorous written and oral exams. Dr. Kobernik has proudly served as both the President and Vice President of his local Oregon Dental Society affiliate, the Umpqua Dental Society.

Although Dr. Kobernik was trained in IV Moderate Sedation in 2012 and was able to sedate patients in office for dental procedures, he recognized that many patients benefit from a deeper level of sedation to facilitate treatment than allowed by the Oregon Board of Dentistry with the IV Moderate Sedation permit. Due to his recognition of the profound need for in-office sedation/anesthesia and dental providers with a greater level of expertise, his history of working in hospital setting, and his work with other anesthesia providers, Dr. Kobernik decided to put his private practice on hold and attend residency in the specialty of Dental Anesthesiology.

It was at NYU Langone Hospitals – Brooklyn, where Dr. Kobernik was given the opportunity to further his education in the specialty of Dental Anesthesiology. As the first class of graduates to fulfill the new standards set by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requiring three years of clinical anesthesia training, Dr. Kobernik excelled and was named Chief Resident for two of the three years while attending NYU. In addition to Chief Resident, he was named to represent NYU’s Dental Anesthesiology residency at their House Staff meetings and was recognized for outstanding service by his program directors. As a resident, Dr. Kobernik proudly accepted requests to speak at multiple conferences for the American Dental Society of Anesthesia held in Chicago, IL, Brooklyn, NY, and Portland, OR.

After selling his general dental practice in January 2024, Dr. Kobernik has continued to explore opportunities within his specialty. As one of approximately 300 board certified Dentist Anesthesiologists in the United States he has had many opportunities to share his passion and expertise. Since completion of residency, Dr. Kobernik has expanded his role to mentor and educate by regularly lecturing to dentists both locally and nationally. Dr. Kobernik is proud to share his expertise as a Dentist Anesthesiologist to the next generation of Dentists and various Dental Specialists by overseeing sedation/anesthesia cases in OHSU’s post-doctorate clinics. By joining OHSU’s School of Dentistry Faculty as a Clinical Professor, he actively takes part in setting the standards for future dental providers both in state and nationally.

Dr. Kobernik is the newest member of the Oregon Board of Dentistry's Anesthesia Committee and is a good standing member of Oregon Dental Association, Oregon Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and as a member of both the American Dental Society of Anesthesia & the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists. Dr. Kobernik does his best to represent the dental profession. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge by lecturing on topics related to sedation/anesthesia dentistry.
