Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Daniel Dirnberger, who serves the Wilmington area at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Dr. Dirnberger was educated at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, then continued his studies with a residency and fellowship at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. Additionally, he completed a residency with Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. He holds medical licenses in Texas, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Currently, Dr. Dirnberger serves as a neonatologist at several hospitals, including Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and Nemours Children’s Hospital. To further the field, Dr. Dirnberger contributes to research and has published his findings in prestigious medical journals, including Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatrics, and the American Journal of Perinatology. To stay up-to-date on developments in his field, Dr. Dirnberger has become a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is additionally a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization. In 2016, he was named Top Doctor in Neonatology by a group of his peers. He truly cares about his patients and hopes to offer them the best possible treatments and procedures. A Neonatologist is trained specifically to handle the most complex and high-risk situations right after children have been born. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects; coordinate care and medically manage newborns born premature, critically ill, or in need of surgery; ensure that critically ill newborns receive the proper nutrition for healing and growth; stabilize and treat newborns with any life-threatening medical problems; and consult with obstetricians, pediatricians, and family physicians about conditions affecting newborn infants. Dr. Dirnberger is an expert in his field and has been in practice for over twenty years. He ensures that parents and children are able to receive the most current, effective treatments possible.
