Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Travea A. McGhie, who serves patients in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. McGhie is a board-certified infectious disease physician currently practicing through Atlanta Clinical Care Infectious Diseases & Infusion Services in Atlanta, georgia. Licensed to practice in the states of Texas and Georgia, she remains affiliated with Emory Healthcare, Northside Hospital Atlanta, Northside Hospital Cherokee, Northside Hospital Forsyth, and Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. McGhie is a 2006-graduate of Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. Following the completion of her medical degree, she pursued a three-year internal medicine residency at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey (2007 – 2010). In 2012, she graduated from the infectious disease fellowship program at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in College Station, Texas. Moreover, Dr. McGhie holds a Master of Public Health degree from The John Hopkins University in Maryland. 

Subsequent to the completion of her training, tDr. McGhie acquired her board certification in internal medicine and the subspecialty of infectious disease medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine. The American Board of Internal Medicine is a 501 nonprofit, self-appointed physician-evaluation organization that certifies physicians practicing internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with prevention, the diagnosis, and treatment of infections. Infectious disease specialists provide long-term care to people with diseases that are lifelong or last for more than one year. They employ a variety of antimicrobial agents to help treat infections.

A member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, Dr. McGhie has served as Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University prior to relocating to Georgia.
