Get to know Plastic Surgeon Dr. Alina D. Sholar, who serves patients in Austin, Texas.
When Dr. Sholar decided to become a plastic surgeon, she had the vision of providing not just an aesthetic surgery or treatment for her patients, but a complete support system where they could feel fulfilled. After 20 years in surgical practice and much soul searching, she realized that women need a better way to skin health – smarter skincare with scientific substance – but it’s just as much about the soul. She wanted to encourage women to reflect their beauty and strength within to the outside, and in turn, feel their most confident, sexy, and strong selves in their 30’s, 40’s, and beyond. She wanted to give women Beauty With Substance in more than any medspa, thus Skin Science Soul Medical Aesthetics was born.
“I want to serve up to you a new way to look at yourself… and I guarantee that where we are going together, you will never say those same old things to yourself or think those same old, tired self-shaming thoughts. I want you to see yourself through the eyes of God, as the beautiful woman you truly are!” expressed Dr. Sholar.
Skin Science Soul Medical Aesthetics is where she merges all her knowledge and wisdom as a plastic surgeon with her life’s mission to empower women to feel confident and beautiful from the inside out. She strives to encourage each of her patients to live to their fullest potential, which is achieved when they take care of themselves and begin to see themselves as the beautiful beings they already are.
An Orange, Texas native, Dr. Sholar received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science with Magna Cum Laude honors at Texas A&M University in 1994 and her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch on a full tuition merit scholarship in 1999. There, she was awarded the prestigious Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Award and Achievement Citation for Women in Medicine.
Wanting to further her education, she completed a full five-year residency in general surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2004, where she was named Chief Resident and awarded Best Resident Instructor and Mentor. During her residency, she participated in mission trips to Central America to perform cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries with the team at the Tennessee Craniofacial Center. She then continued her study of surgery by completing an additional residency in hand surgery & plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Chattanooga in 2006.
Two years later, in 2008, Dr. Sholar attained board certification in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
Today not only does Dr. Sholar practice at Skin Science Soul, she also owns Serenity Medical Centers, a PT/PM&R clinic in Austin and San Antonio, and Sage Practice Solutions, leading as CEO/COO. In direct affiliation with her industry, Dr. Sholar is a member of the American Med Spa Association, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Association for Physician Leadership. She has received multiple awards and publications in research areas such as the efficacy of treatment at Tertiary Care Wound Centers and the advanced reconstructive techniques required after major facial trauma and infections.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories – reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.
Ask one of Dr. Alina Sholar’s Skin Science Soul patients why they are so loyal to her medical aesthetics and plastic surgery practice, and they will tell you that it’s all about how Dr. Sholar connects with them to help them feel beautiful, strong, and confident. Likewise, if you spoke with one of her Sage Practice Solutions clients, they would tell you how she connects them with the tools, the strength, and the confidence they needed to start their own medical practice or medical revenue cycle management company. And if you were to query the Serenity Medical Centers team, they would tell you that Dr. Sholar’s leadership style is centered on staff personal and professional development, giving them that same connected confidence to expand their creativity, career skills and competency. Owning and leading these three has Dr. Sholar deep in the wilderness of female-led healthcare business, blazing a trail that will certainly benefit Austin and beyond.
In addition to her more professional endeavors as a plastic surgeon and entrepreneur, Dr. Sholar is a medical illustrator and an accomplished professional artist, with personal artwork displayed in galleries and storefronts. Her medical artwork has been published in prestigious medical journals and textbooks such as the Annals of Plastic Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Journal, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and Cameron’s Current Surgical Therapy. This artistic talent and understanding of human anatomy is demonstrated in her ability to create beautiful and natural enhancements in cosmetic aesthetic surgery and advanced techniques in non-invasive injectable treatments.
On a more personal note, her favorite pastime is to spend time with her rescued dachshunds and her favorite place to vacation is in Colorado.
