Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Codi Wiener, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.
Improving the lives of women and their families, Dr. Wiener is an obstetrician-gynecologist in Houston, Texas. She is now a practicing physician at The Women’s Specialists of Houston, where she specializes in general obstetrics and gynecology with a focus on laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures.
She developed her passion for women’s health while in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, where she lived and worked for two-and-a-half years in the rural health education program.
“Today my philosophy is: the patient is the boss and her health and satisfaction are my number one priorities. My goal is to empower women by the knowledge that’s given to them. If they’re educated about their bodies and how they work, their health improves as a result” stated the doctor.
While gynecologic surgeries might seem routine—hysterectomies, ovarian removals and cysts—Dr. Wiener finds each surgery unique. She credits her father’s engineering genes for her dexterity and surgical instincts.
In addition to well-women check-ups and obstetrics, patients trust Dr. Wiener for endometriosis and uterine fibroids, female pelvic surgery including pelvic adhesions, hysterectomies, ovarian cyst removal and ovarian removal, as well as robotic and laparoscopic procedures.
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Wiener completed her high school education at the Texas Academy of Math and Science (TAMS) at the University of North Texas. After TAMS, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with honors as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.
After completing medical school, she was accepted into the obstetrics and gynecology residency program at the prestigious The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where she delivered over 500 babies and performed over 300 gynecologic surgeries, including laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
Additionally, Dr. Wiener completed a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, where she focused on laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures. “I felt it was important to further specialize in advanced gynecologic surgery as these techniques allow me to provide the best options for my patients to minimize downtime and post-operative pain.”
Offering a spectrum of gynecologic and obstetric expertise, she is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
In order to stay up to date in her field, Dr. Wiener remains an active member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Fellow), the Harris County Medical Society, and the Texas Medical Association.
Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Wiener is able to accommodate the needs of Spanish-speaking patients as well. Her outside interests include spending time with her husband and family, traveling, nutrition and fitness.
