Renowned Physician Recognized for Global Contributions to Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

Dr. Javier Perez-Fernandez, an esteemed pulmonary and critical care physician, is a highly respected figure in the medical community. As the CEO of South Florida Critical Care Services, LLC, he leads the practice at Galloway Professional Center in Miami, Florida, bringing extensive experience and expertise to his role.

Dr. Perez-Fernadez’s affiliations with esteemed hospitals such as Baptist Hospital of Miami (serving as the Medical Director of Critical Care), Doctors Hospital, South Miami Hospital, West Kendall Baptist Hospital (serving as the Medical Director of Pulmonary Services) and Coral Gables Hospital, underscore his expertise and leadership in the field.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Perez-Fernandez has been serving as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine since January 2011. His dedication to education and mentorship exemplifies his passion for shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. 

Educated in Spain, Dr. Perez-Fernandez graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of Navarra School of Medicine. He furthered his training by completing his internship in internal medicine at the University of Puerto Rico - San Juan, his fellowship in pulmonary disease at VA Medical Center - San Juan, and an additional fellowship in critical care medicine at Rush University Medical Center.

With extensive experience spanning over two decades, Dr. Perez-Fernandez holds multiple board certifications in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. His outstanding contributions to the field have earned him recognition as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

Dr. Perez-Fernandez has been elected as the President-Elect of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care, a prestigious global organization dedicated to advancing critical care services worldwide. His remarkable career and commitment to excellence have earned him this esteemed position, and he is set to assume the Presidency at the 17th World Congress in Vancouver in September 2025.

In this capacity, Dr. Perez-Fernandez is poised to spearhead initiatives aimed at expanding critical care coverage worldwide. With a focus on underserved areas, diversity in critical care, and the humanization of intensive care services, he aims to enhance the delivery of care with a patient-centered approach.

On a more personal note, Dr. Perez-Fernandez’s fluency in both English and Spanish further enables him to connect with diverse populations and provide compassionate care across linguistic barriers. Through his leadership roles and ongoing research efforts, he continues to drive innovation and excellence in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
