Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Jorge Calles-Escandon, who serves patients in Cleveland, Ohio.

A prominent endocrinologist, Dr. Calles-Escandon is the Division Director of Endocrinology at the MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He can also be found on staff at Broadway Health Center.

Located on the near west side of Cleveland, MetroHealth Medical Center is an industry leader in numerous areas, including trauma, emergency and critical care, women's and children's services — including high-risk obstetrical care and neonatal intensive care — comprehensive medical and surgical subspecialties, heart and vascular care, cancer care, senior health, stroke and rehabilitative health care services.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Calles-Escandon graduated with his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He then went on to complete two consecutive fellowships in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the Yale University School of Medicine, and at the Fletcher Allen Health Care - MCHV Campus.

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Teaching students, Dr. Calles-Escandon serves as a Professor of Endocrinology at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others.
