Throughout his academic career, Dr. Karnik received his medical training from Grant Medical College of the University of Bombay, India. He then completed his residency in pediatrics in the United States at Rutgers University / New Jersey Medical School, followed by a fellowship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in Brooklyn, where he served as chief resident his last year there.
Having held a variety of positions both professionally and academically, Dr. Karnik was one of the first physicians to practice pediatric neurology in Austin nearly 35 years ago. Currently, he serves as the Director of Pediatric Neurology at the Starbright Rehabilitation Center, which is a group providing rehab services to brain-injured children. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas at Austin & the Medical Director of the University of Texas Autism Program, which is dedicated to researching treatment options for those on the autism spectrum.
With an unwavering commitment to his speciality, the doctor is board-certified in neurology with special qualification in child neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
