How can I make my wisdom teeth heal faster?
The fastest way to have wisdom teeth heal is by using Peridex oral rinse 2 times per day for a minimum of 1 minute rinse and using salt water rinse 3-5 times per day. This along with keeping the area clean and eating soft foods will help move things along faster. READ MORE

Yes, they have been around for 70+ years with great advancements in their technology. I believe they are the standard of care for patients replacing teeth that have enough bone and are in good health. How often should I clean my dentures?
At minimum, dentures should be cleaned every night. However, if food is being caught under the dentures after you eat, it is a good idea to also clean them after every time you eat. READ MORE
Are there any downsides to dental implants?
For healthy adults with plenty of bone, implants are the best options available. The downside is it take about 3-4 months from time of placement to having a tooth in the space. Does charcoal really whiten teeth?
Yes, this does work. It is not recommended as the charcoal is very abrasive and actually removes some of the enamel each time it is used. Enamel is the outer layer of the tooth and once removed it doesn't come back. READ MORE

What is a bone graft?
Bone graft is bone material taken from either your own bone, cadaver bone, or synthetic bone. It is used to fill the space when a tooth is extracted or used to expand the space when the bone is insufficient to place the implant. Why are my teeth decaying so fast?
There are a number of reasons for tooth decay. Decay is determined by 50/50, genetic and environment. That being said, teeth being more susceptible to tooth decay could be inherited from your parents. The other aspect is your diet and cleaning routine. Dr. Straughan is a dentist who is currently serving patients’ dental needs at Alliance Dental Group in Mooresville, North Carolina. There, he provides general and cosmetic dentistry services, including crowns, bridges, dental implants, dentures, veneers, bleaching, bonding, and more. Dr. Straughan was born and raised in Statesboro, Georgia – a small town outside of Savannah. He graduated from Statesboro High School as Valedictorian of his 2005 graduating class. From there, he headed to Athens, GA, where he graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Straughan continued to pursue this profession at Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine, where he graduated in the top 10% of his graduating class, and was awarded membership into the Phi Kappa Phi National Dental Honor Society. He then went on to further his education at a General Practice Residency (GPR) program at Carolinas Medical Center Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. There, he increased his knowledge of endodontics, oral surgery, medically complex patients, and emergency patients.
Dr. Straughan always wanted to move back to the Charlotte area after his residency. To pursue this desire, he credentialed for dual board certification that certifies him to practice in all 50 states. He now lives in Charlotte full time with his wife and French bulldog.
In addition to his education, Dr. Straughan has been actively involved in the American Dental Association, staying up to date on policies and changes throughout the dental field. He has also been involved in Medical Campus Outreach – a program that reaches out to domestic and international communities.
Dr. Straughan has been on mission trips to Trinidad and Africa to help those without access to any form of medical care. He has also been an active participant in Missions of Mercy clinics in Georgia and North Carolina for underserved patients. Dr. Straughan is active in continuing education courses and the latest advancements in cutting-edge technology.
Dr. Straughan is a certified Invisalign® provider. Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that helps to straighten teeth without the use of the typical metal braces.
