Renowned pediatric infectious diseases expert, Dr. W. Garrett Hunt, MD, MPH, DTM&H, FAAP, holds the positions of Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Medical Director of Infection Control and Prevention at CHRISTUS Children’s in San Antonio, Texas. With a distinguished career marked by a commitment to excellence, his presence represents a significant advancement in the hospital’s mission to provide top-tier care to children in the region.
Dr. Hunt’s impressive academic background includes serving on the Senior Faculty at Baylor College of Medicine since July 2022 and holding the position of Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine since August 2004.
A 1997 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Dr. Hunt completed his pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan/Wayne State University in 2000. Following this, he pursued a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in 2003, where he also served as an instructor for one year.
To enhance his expertise in public health, global health, and tuberculosis, Dr. Hunt pursued a Master of Public Health Degree from The Ohio State University College of Public Health (2014-2017). He further honed his skills by attending specialized workshops and courses, including a TB workshop at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado (2015), the Gorgas Diploma Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine in Lima, Peru (2016), and the Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine (2016). His dedication to staying at the forefront of infectious diseases is evident in his participation in a workshop at the National Ebola Training & Education Center in Atlanta, Georgia (2018).
With his wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. W. Garrett Hunt is poised to make a lasting impact at CHRISTUS Children’s and continue his legacy of excellence in the field of medicine.
