Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. William C. Ackerman Jr., who serves patients in Gainesville, Georgia.

A practiced ophthalmologist, Dr. Ackerman is in practice at Advanced Eye Center in Gainesville, Georgia. He has performed tens of thousands of surgical procedures, including but not limited to laser vision correction, cataract removal, corneal transplants, glaucoma and eyelid surgery.

The team at Advanced Eye Center is committed to the highest quality patient care and to providing patients with truly personalized vision correction. They have been providing quality eye care and refractive surgery to Northeast Georgia for more than 30 years.

Academically, Dr. Ackerman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in Athens. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa and performed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham/Eye Foundation Hospital.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in ophthalmology through the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

As such, Dr. Ackerman has been a leader in adopting and implementing the latest technologies relating to cataract and vision correction surgery, not only in the State of Georgia, but on a national level. 

Furthermore, he has extensive training in glaucoma therapy which he received through working with the top international glaucoma specialists, and has been involved with international relief missions restoring sight in underprivileged parts of the world.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. Ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and may perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Recognized for his dedication to his field, Dr. Ackerman has been the recipient of the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2016).

On a more personal note, he has lived in Gainesville, Georgia since 1994 with his wife and three daughters. In his free time, he enjoys bird dogs, bird hunting, fly-fishing and fresh and saltwater fishing.
