A highly trained gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Diaz-Montes serves as the Associate Director of The Lya Segall Ovarian Cancer Institute and Medical Director of The Neil B. Rosenshein, M.D., Institute for Gynecologic Care at Annapolis. She also is a noted expert and gynecologic oncologist with The Gynecologic Oncology Center at Mercy, a leading Center in Baltimore for the treatment of cancers of the female reproductive tract.
Bringing a friendly approach to the treatment of her patients, she takes the necessary time to listen to the needs of her patients and address their concerns. As a recipient of the Patient's Choice Award, her approachable, caring bedside manner has been formally recognized by her patients. Her primary clinical interests include ovarian cancer treatments, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, including robotic surgery, and patient safety and quality. Additional areas of interest include cervical cancer, fallopian tube cancer, fertility-sparing surgery and uterine, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
To begin her career, Dr. Diaz-Montes graduated with her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University District Hospital. She then went on to further her training by receiving a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University, and completing a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
With an unwavering commitment to her specialty, the doctor is board-certified in gynecologic oncology & obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), she is an active member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society. She has extensive experience in research and resident teaching activities, and has conducted various clinical trials to advance the care of gynecologic cancers, particularly ovarian cancer. She and her colleagues in The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy are conducting the first clinical study in the United States regarding treatment of ovarian cancer with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, also known as HIPEC.
