Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Ioana Dumitru, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.
A board-certified advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist, Dr. Dumitru is the Medical Director of Adult Cardiac Transplant, Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy at Memorial Healthcare System, working with patients at Memorial Hospital West and Memorial Regional Hospital.
She cares for patients with complex cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension, as well as cardiac transplant patients and patients supported by mechanical cardiac support. It is rewarding for her to be able to evaluate and treat heart conditions with the goal of giving patients and families back their confidence and quality of life.
Putting the patients first, Dr. Dumitru works with a multidisciplinary team that is able to meet all of the needs of their patients and provide compassionate, comprehensive care. They treat all of their patients like family.
A Romanian native, she earned her medical degree from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy. After relocating to the United States, she trained in internal medicine at St. Joseph Hospital/Northwestern Medical School in Chicago and completed two fellowships: one in cardiovascular disease at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and a second in heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the Washington University School of Medicine.
A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is triple board-certified in adult congenital heart disease, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Professionally, Dr. Dumitru is a proud member of the Heart Failure Society of America, and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant.
Prior to joining Memorial Healthcare System, she was the Founder and Medical Director of the Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
