Get to know Family Physician Dr. Rita Rajput Sharma, who serves patients throughout the State of Maryland.

A committed family physician, Dr. Sharma is affiliated with Family HealthCare, joining the practice in 2007. She specializes in preventive medicine and women’s health.

Family HealthCare is a full service primary care medical practice. Founded in 1980, they have grown to become one of the premier medical practices in Montgomery County. Since initially opening in Germantown, they have expanded to open offices in Rockville and Olney to better serve the patients in their community. Family HealthCare is one of a select group of practices nationwide that have been recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Sharma received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland College Park, and graduated with her medical degree from the St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in family medicine at the Franklin Square Hospital, serving as Chief Resident in her final year.

As a testament to her success, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
