  • My son has dislocated his shoulder twice from playing baseball. Will this have an effect on him in the future?

It depends on the type of dislocation, how much bone loss has occurred, and your son’s physiology and ability and rehabilitation discipline afterwards. You need to have an overall Godly relationship all around - the surgeon, the family, and the patient. Best regards, Dr. Doug Duncan, MD READ MORE

  • How can I manage my blood sugar while running?

  • Is an ankle sprain serious?

First question - is the bone broken or are the ligaments stretched? And if so, how serious is it? Usually, if you can bear weight and the tenderness is not directly on the bone and there is no obvious deformity and milder swelling, it may not be fractured - any question in your mind, you should see an orthopedic surgeon for proper ankle X-rays and evaluation. However, a seemingly innocuous "ankle sprain" could be a serious matter if not properly evaluated and treated by an orthopedic surgeon. Ligaments can take a significant amount of time to heal. When choosing an orthopedic surgeon, it is really important to get the right doctor. You need a man of integrity who will take take the time and staff and energy and compassion to treat you right and with the proper time to address your needs and concerns, to educate you on the problem and plan, and the sports specialty background to get you back in the game with the proper timing and proper program and plan to do so - for your best future and healing. • I have sharp knee pain after doing squats in the gym. What should I do?

Hi, There are many things an evaluation with a quality orthopedic surgeon, sports specialist can offer you in regard to this question. When picking an orthopedic surgeon, you should choose one that has his practice set up with the time and staffing to provide you the time and education and full exam you deserve and need to fully develop the nature of your unique situation and health concerns overall. Also, every patient and life is different, and needs to be properly evaluated. At our clinic, we personally base on our practice model and time on Biblical principles. This ongoing extra compassion and passion in Christ to do the right thing with integrity and integrated Biblical principles to include extra time, extra staff, teaching aids, rehabilitation protocols, and the staffing and time with each patient to show the nature of the problem, review X-rays, teach rehabilitative techniques and exercises - to maximize your ability to get back in the game, to adequately understand the full nature of the problem, and to best be able to take care of the temple or body God has given to use in the way intended. All that under consideration, it can often be patellofemoral problems that usually can be addressed non-operatively in a number of different ways, depending on the patient - or could be a cartilage issue or meniscal issue - or a number of other items. Really, bottom line, you need a surgeon who has the love and compassion and energy and staffing and time to make sure you have the best care possible. With us, Christ gives me that compassion, and time and care and energy that we choose to make less, see less patients, and give top quality care - in order to glorify God. • I consume a lot of protein shakes. Will this cause problems in the future?

The best thing you can do is to eat a balanced diet that includes the right food groups and variety. A healthy mix of the right foods, good protein, grilled and baked (not fried), low fat, appropriate carbs, and exercise. Peter’s vision cleared the way for us to enjoy all foods in this day and age. I personally take a multivitamin each day. Some sources say you can only digest 15g of protein every two hours. In Christ, Dr. D READ MORE
