Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Richard Horton, who serves patients in California.

Dr. Horton is a board-certified endocrinologist who is affiliated with Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases related to hormone imbalance, and the body’s glands in the endocrine system.

Harbor–UCLA Medical Center is a 570-bed public teaching hospital located at 1000 West Carson Street in West Carson, an unincorporated area within Los Angeles County, California. Its mission is to advance the health of patients and the communities by providing extraordinary care.

Back in 1958, Dr. Horton graduated with his medical degree from the  University of Washington School of Medicine. He went on to perform his residency in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, his internship at Swedish Medical Center in 1959, and an additional residency in internal medicine at UCLA-VA Greater Los Angeles in 1961.

He furthered his training with a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the University of California (San Francisco) in 1962. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at the said establishment in 1963.

An elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Dr. Horton is also Professor Emeritus at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others.
