Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Rivera was a staff physician in the Emergency Department at 121st General Hospital in Seoul, South Korea, a contract physician at The Schumacher Group – Beauregard Community Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana, and a staff physician in the Emergency Department at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital in Fort Polk, Louisiana.
The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1996 when he earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico – School of Medicine in San Juan, Puerto Rico. There, he was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Upon graduation, he relocated to the United States to complete his residency in urological surgery at the University of Florida, Gainesville, where he was named both the 2002 and 2005 AUA Gerald P. Murphy Scholar. He then went on to complete his fellowship training in pelvic and reconstructive surgery, voiding dysfunction, incontinence, and urodynamics at the University of Miami.
Improving the quality of life for his patients with overactive bladders, pelvic floor disorders, and voiding dysfunction is a driving motivation and a goal for Dr. Rivera. He is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology, whose mission is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, as well as to work with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.
Having presented multiple abstracts at urological meetings, some of the many articles that Dr. Rivera has written include topics on botulinum toxin use, the role of urodynamics in vaginal prolapse, urethral diverticulum, estrogen significance in postmenopausal woman, vaginal fistulas, and erectile dysfunction.
