Get to know Radiation Oncologist Dr. Lucien A. Nedzi, who serves patients in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Nedzi is a board-certified radiation oncologist who joined UT Southwestern Medical Center in March of 2008 as an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, and Medical Director. UT Southwestern, one of the premier academic medical centers in the nation, integrates pioneering biomedical research with exceptional clinical care and education. The institution’s faculty includes many distinguished members, including six who have been awarded Nobel Prizes since 1985. The faculty of more than 2,500 is responsible for groundbreaking medical advances and is committed to translating science-driven research quickly to new clinical treatments.
Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty, Dr. Nedzi held faculty appointments at both Tulane University and Louisiana State University in New Orleans. He still enjoys spending time in the Big Easy whenever possible.
Dr. Nedzi focuses his practice primarily on the treatment of brain cancers and brain metastases. Motivated by the need to find better cures, he has been an active clinical investigator throughout his career, leading clinical trials at UT Southwestern, as well as throughout the nation.
Dr. Nedzi earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 1987. He then went on to complete his internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1988, followed by his fellowship at the Harvard Joint Center for Radiation Therapy in 1990. He also completed his residency in radiation oncology at the Harvard Joint Center for Radiation Therapy in 1992.
Dr. Nedzi is board-certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not for profit physician-led organization. It oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.
Dr. Nedzi has published numerous articles in medical journals, including the American Journal of Medical Science and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. His contributions include several articles on the subject of stereotactic radiosurgery. He is also the co-author of a leading textbook on stereotactic body radiation therapy. Additionally, Dr. Nedzi was named a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly in 2018.
Radiation oncology is one of the three primary specialties, the other two being surgical and medical oncology, involved in the treatment of cancer. A radiation oncologist, like Dr. Nedzi, is a specialist physician who uses ionizing radiation (such as megavoltage X-rays or radionuclides) in the treatment of cancer. He specializes in radiation therapy for brain tumors and spinal cord cancer.
