Get to know Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist Dr. Moataz E. Refaie, who serves patients throughout the State of New York.

Selected among “America’s Top Psychiatrist” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America from 2009, Dr. Refaie is a double board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. In New York City, he maintains a private practice servicing two conveniently situated locations in Midtown Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn.

With expertise in treating patients with complex psychological problems and psychiatric issues, Dr. Refaie uses his skills to make refined diagnoses. He applies concepts of modern psychopharmacology and different modalities of psychotherapy along with compassionate and empathic care for his patients.  

Treatment is within a caring, warm and nonjudgmental setting, where he works with each patient as a team, to understand their individual feelings, concerns, and goals and together formulate a treatment plan for healthier, happier, and more fulfilling living.  

Described as personable, empathic, and conscientious, Dr. Refaie is recognized for his clinical skills and excellence in comprehensive treatment of children, adolescents, and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autistic spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. He also offers medication management, including advanced psychopharmacology of complex psychiatric disorders like obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Refaie graduated with his medical degree from Ain Shams University, Faculty of Medicine in 1991. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in psychiatry at State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn in 2002. He also completed his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2004.

With over two decades of experience, he is board-certified in psychiatry & child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Well qualified in his field, Dr. Refaie is an active member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Medical Academy, and the New York University Bellevue  Psychiatric Society.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
